                                                    INTRODUCTION:

Aloha, my name is Jet Heng, a 27 year old U.S. Combat Veteran, a bilingual graduate of Hilo High School and Hawaii Community College.  I am currently pursuing a second degree in political science with a strong emphasis on women studies at UH Hilo.  I served eight years in the Army and Air force, and while serving overseas in Germany I was deployed to Iraq from 2003-2004.  I spend my free time enjoying the natural beauty of Hawaii with my beautiful wife, April Greenwell.

I am running for County Council District 4 because I want to heal the divide between the county and its people.  In college I gained political experience representing the student body on the student government and caucus.  I led students to the Legislature three times to pressure Governor Lingle into releasing over 18 million dollars for Hawaii Community College.  In order to make our voices heard, it is critical that our community becomes more involved in the political process.

Over the years, I have traveled to 22 countries and studied intensely how their governments operate.  It is through this experience that I hope to bring integrity back to local government.  We live in uncertain economic times, and I understand the needs of our local economy.  Recently, I administered surveys regarding issues challenging local small businesses, and coordinated the first Hawaii Island Economic Entrepreneur’s Forum for the Kanoelehua Industrial Area Association, Inc.

My name is Jet Heng - I stand for safety, opportunity for our children, and a strong sense of community.
